*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual river water temperatures may vary by several degrees from the reported values, particularly after heavy rainfall or periods of changing weather. Rainfall, river flow rates, and runoff from cooler upstream areas can significantly affect water temperature, especially in flowing sections and shaded stretches. Air temperature and cloud cover also play an important role, with warm, sunny conditions helping rivers warm up more quickly. As a result, noticeable temperature differences can occur along the same river.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that takes into account real-time river temperature changes, historical data, seasonal patterns, river flow conditions, recent rainfall, and local air temperature. We also factor in broader weather conditions specific to each region of Australia to improve accuracy.

The Nambucca River is a real stunner on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, famous for its turquoise V-Wall and some of the clearest estuary waters you'll find in the state. If you’re heading down for a dip, the water temperature is an absolute treat during the summer months, usually peaking between 24°C and 27°C. It’s like a warm bath, perfect for drifting along with the tide. When winter rolls around, the mercury dips a bit, but it’s still relatively mild compared to the southern states, typically sitting between 18°C and 20°C. While it might feel a bit fresh for a long soak in August, it’s still spot on for a quick splash or a bit of snorkelling if the sun is out.
Swimming Conditions
Swimming is definitely allowed and is a massive part of the local lifestyle, especially at family favourites like Bellwood Park or the sandy shallows of the V-Wall. It’s a cracker of a spot because the river is largely free from the heavy agricultural runoff found elsewhere, keeping the water crystal clear and generally safe. You’ve still got to keep your wits about you, though; the river is a tidal system, so the currents can pull pretty hard near the mouth when the tide is on the move. As long as you stick to the protected sandy banks and check the local conditions after a big downpour, it’s a legendary place to float your worries away and maybe even spot a few local dolphins.
