Nubeena sits on the Tasman Peninsula in south-east Tasmania, where sheltered bays meet the cooler waters of the Tasman Sea. Water temperatures here are typical of the east coast and change steadily with the seasons. In summer, from December to February, the sea usually reaches around 16–18 °C, which feels refreshing but comfortable enough for swimming on warm days. Autumn brings a gradual cooling to about 14–16 °C, while winter is colder, commonly around 11–13 °C. During spring, the water slowly warms again, generally sitting between 13–15 °C as daylight increases and weather patterns settle.
