Scamander sits on Tasmania’s north-east coast where the Scamander River meets the Tasman Sea, giving the area a mix of ocean and estuary conditions. Water temperatures here follow a clear seasonal pattern. In summer, from December to February, the sea typically warms to around 17–19 °C, which is cool but comfortable enough for swimming on warm days. Autumn sees temperatures ease back to about 15–17 °C, while winter is noticeably colder, usually around 11–13 °C. During spring, the water slowly warms again, generally sitting between 13–15 °C as daylight increases and weather becomes more settled.
