Wineglass Bay sits within Freycinet National Park on Tasmania’s east coast, opening onto the Tasman Sea but sheltered by the curve of the bay and surrounding granite peaks. This natural protection helps moderate conditions compared with more exposed beaches nearby. Water temperatures follow a gentle seasonal pattern. In summer, from December to February, the sea typically reaches around 17–19 °C, which feels cool but comfortable on warm days. Autumn brings a gradual cooling to about 15–17 °C, while winter is noticeably colder, usually around 11–13 °C. During spring, the water slowly warms again, generally sitting between 13–15 °C as daylight increases and weather becomes more settled.
