Sandpatch sits south-east of Albany on an exposed stretch of the far south coast, where long sandy beaches meet the open waters of the Great Australian Bight. Water temperatures here are cool year-round, shaped by the Southern Ocean. In summer, from December to February, the sea usually ranges between 18–21°C, which can feel comfortable on warm, calm days. Autumn sees a gradual drop to around 16–19°C. Winter is distinctly cold and bracing, most often sitting at 13–15°C, while spring brings a slow rise again to about 15–17°C, though fresh winds often make the water feel cooler than the numbers suggest.
