Bellerive sits on the eastern shore of the Derwent Estuary, just across the water from Hobart, with conditions influenced by the Tasman Sea but softened by the river environment. This makes local water temperatures relatively stable through the year. In summer, from December to February, the water usually reaches around 16–19 °C, which feels cool but comfortable enough for swimming on warm days.
