Kingston Beach sits just south of Hobart on Tasmania’s south-east coast, facing the Tasman Sea where conditions are cooler but generally more settled than the open ocean further south. Water temperatures here follow a clear seasonal cycle. In summer, from December to February, the sea usually warms to around 16–19 °C, making it one of the more comfortable swimming spots in southern Tasmania. Autumn sees temperatures ease back to about 14–17 °C, while winter is noticeably colder, typically around 11–13 °C. During spring, the water gradually warms again, usually sitting between 13–15 °C as longer days and calmer weather return.
