Bruny Island lies off Tasmania’s south-east coast, facing the Tasman Sea, where conditions vary noticeably between sheltered bays and more exposed beaches. Water temperatures here are cool but slightly milder than the west coast. In summer, from December to February, the sea usually reaches around 16–18 °C, which is refreshing and swimmable on warm days. Autumn sees temperatures ease back to about 14–16 °C, while winter is colder, typically around 11–13 °C. During spring, the water slowly warms again, generally sitting between 13–15 °C as daylight increases and weather becomes more settled.
