Phillip Bay lies on Sydney’s southern edge near the entrance to Botany Bay, with water influenced by both the Tasman Sea and the more enclosed bay conditions. Water temperatures follow the familiar seasonal cycle of the Sydney coast. In summer, from December through March, the water is usually at its warmest, sitting around 21–24 °C and comfortable for most swimmers. Autumn brings a gradual drop to roughly 19–21 °C. Winter is noticeably cooler, typically around 16–18 °C, while spring sees temperatures lift again into the 18–20 °C range as ocean conditions begin to stabilise.
